Practice what you preach!

Image
After almost 25 years of activity in the recruitment industry, I am always surprised how stubbornly the autocratic leadership style still persists – despite other rhetoric. A constantly and rapidly changing work environment, grappling with societal developments that are becoming increasingly difficult to predict and geopolitically new facts, must place different demands on leaders than the familiar ones. In my experience as a recruitment specialist, many HR departments – whether from global players or SMEs – still have not adjusted strongly enough to the new requirements, which are accompanied in many Western countries (especially in Europe and Japan) by a negative demographic trend and a shortage of skilled workers. HR professionals should pay much more attention to these „new“ qualities in leaders than they have done so far. Study finds RTO mandates driving senior leaders to switch to direct competitors

Image
Recent research highlights new concerns regarding return-to-office (RTO) policies, particularly the significant exodus of long-tenured and senior-level employees to direct competitors following an RTO mandate. Authored by University of Chicago political scientist Austin Wright and researchers from the University of Michigan, the May 7 report reveals the detrimental impact of RTO mandates on employee retention and organizational knowledge. The pronounced departure of seasoned personnel poses substantial challenges for companies implementing RTO mandates, including the costs associated with hiring and training replacements and the loss of valuable operational knowledge. Interestingly, the research found no discernible differences between men and women in terms of leaving for other companies, suggesting that women may not be acting on their preference for remote work as documented in various surveys. EEOC Targets AI Bias in Hiring, Prioritizes Barrier Removal

Image
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has outlined its strategic priorities for the period from 2024 to 2028, emphasizing its commitment to using its enforcement powers to tackle employment barriers created by technology, discrimination against vulnerable workers, and the protection of employees affected by pregnancy, childbirth, and related medical conditions. This announcement came on September 21 as the EEOC revealed its Strategic Enforcement Plan (SEP). The SEP largely maintains the content seen in the earlier draft plan, despite some minor changes. Notably, this plan was finalized two months after Commissioner Kalpana Kotagal’s Senate confirmation, which restored a 3-2 Democratic majority within the agency. Crafting an Optimal Interview Environment for Neurodiverse Applicants

Image
The recognition of diversity in the workplace has extended to embracing neurodiversity, highlighting the various cognitive processes and abilities present in individuals. Companies like SAP, Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, and Microsoft have revamped their hiring approaches to actively include neurodiverse talent, citing significant gains in productivity, innovation, and engagement. Despite this growing acknowledgement, neurodiverse candidates often face hurdles in securing employment due to traditional recruitment methods. The standard job interview format, particularly its reliance on social cues and nonverbal communication, can present challenges for individuals with autism, dyslexia, or ADHD. As a result, many neurodiverse adults struggle with unemployment or underemployment. To ensure fair consideration for neurodiverse candidates, recruiting and hiring teams should adopt more inclusive practices: For more details please visit our website - http://www.hroutlook.com/2023/12/11/cr...

The 9-to-5 Preference: Gallup’s Latest Report Urges Leaders to Reassess Work Flexibility Policies

Image
Gallup’s latest report delivers a compelling message to company leaders: it’s time to reassess your work flexibility policies. The report, published on September 15, highlights a fascinating revelation—company leaders often misjudge their employees’ desires to blend work and personal life versus a traditional 9-to-5 workday. The Gallup report identifies two types of employees: the “blenders” who prefer a seamless mix of work and personal time during the day and the “splitters” who value a clear-cut 9-to-5 schedule with dedicated focus time. The critical insight here is that both these groups can be engaged and productive at work if their preferences and needs are acknowledged and accommodated. Could menopause accommodation become a legal obligation for employers?

Image
In the realm of workforce dynamics, the significance of women has been a prominent topic in recent weeks. The narrative has expanded to encompass a pivotal issue that’s been gaining momentum – the need for ‘menopause-friendly’ workplaces. This discreetly referred to as ‘the change,’ menopause isn’t just a later-life experience; it can knock on the doors of women as early as their 30s. However, employers’ apparent disregard for this natural transition is increasingly being recognized as a significant factor pushing women away from their jobs. The reasons behind this are glaringly evident. Menopause often aligns with the time when women are at their career zenith, poised to ascend to leadership positions. The collective impact of these challenges has led to a sobering statistic – the US Department of Labor estimates that over 500,000 women exit the workforce because employers fail to acknowledge the hurdles posed by menopause. Considering that approximately 20% of the female workfo...

New Pay Transparency Law Enacted; Illinois Strengthens Freelancer Worker Protections

Image
Starting from September 17, 2023, every company in the New York State with over four workers should include the offering pay range in their job ads, transfer or promotion of the jobs. This also extends to the New York City law that became effective in November requiring a minimum of four employees with good faith salary ranges to be advertised for posted positions. Nevertheless, none of the laws cited above apply to the assistance of temporary help which a company can engage in providing services for another business. Additionally, in accordance with New York State’s regulation, the description of the advertised position for any job posting, advancement, and transfer must be stated, except where the title does not require additional explanation. Sustaining DEIB Priorities in Tight Budgets: Embedding Them in Daily Operations

Image
With reductions in companies’ workforce coupled with budget cuts, protecting minorities in the workforce remains a daunting task. However, even before the budget pressures began, the tumultuous events of 2020 like the COVID-19 pandemic had already pushed DEIB down on the lists of priorities of many companies. This reduction is a result of several factors one of them being budget constraints. However, the contentious American society and politics are an understated reason towards the division in the United States. Unfortunately, some business leaders now see DEIB as a divisive topic that can be misconstrued as a political association. for more details please visit our website :https://www.hroutlook.com/2023/12/09/sustaining-deib-priorities-in-tight-budgets-embedding-them-in-daily-operations/

Study Finds No Link Between Telehealth and Low-Value Primary Care Services

Image
A study published this week in *JAMA Network Open* found that increased telehealth utilization in primary care clinics was not linked to a rise in low-value services—those with little clinical benefit but significant costs. This research, which analyzed data from over 577,000 Medicare beneficiaries, found no correlation between increased telehealth use and most forms of low-value care, such as unnecessary screenings or tests with little clinical benefit but significant costs. This finding challenges concerns that virtual care might lead to more wasteful services and higher healthcare spending. for more details please visit our website :https://www.hroutlook.com/2024/11/21/study-finds-no-link-between-telehealth-and-low-value-primary-care-services/
